Choosing your wedding ring should be one of the most enjoyable tasks on the wedding planning checklist.
Wedding rings have been used throughout history to represent your lives being entwined for eternity. However, they have not always been made of metals such as gold. In the past bone, ivory and leather have all been used. Today's bride and groom have a large choice available to them when considering their wedding rings, so it makes sense to spend some time considering what you both want.
It is not necessary to shop for wedding rings too early in the general scheme of wedding planning, unless of course, you have a special order that needs to be accommodated. Otherwise around 4 months before your big day should be fine, and give you enough time to have a ring altered for size if necessary.
Bear in mind when you are both looking at your wedding rings, that these are meant to be worn every day for the rest of your life, so make sure that it is something you like and will not want to take off!
Use the time spent shopping for your wedding rings as a time when the two of you can relax together, away from the hustle of the wedding planning list. For this to happen, spend some time beforehand going over what you both want, and the budget you have available.
Something to consider is whether you both want to go for matching rings. It is acceptable these days for the bride and grooms to have different designs of wedding ring, so do not feel constrained by tradition. Another consideration is whether you want to go for a classic design or something more modern. Bear in mind, that fashion trends come and go, but this ring is meant to last a lifetime, and choose accordingly.
Do not be swayed by sales staff when you choose your ring. They will probably show you rings that are not of your taste, or within your budget as a matter of course. Also consider whether you want to engrave your rings, and allow time for that. Don't forget to insure your rings in case of loss or damage.
