Wedding Invitations

Wedding Invitations and Etiquette

When is an invitations more than an invitation? When it is a wedding invitation!

This is the one area where the couple who are planning to get married should not flout tradition. A wedding invitation tells the guest who is getting married, where it is, when it is and what the occasion is. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. It also tells the guest the style of the wedding, whether it is formal or casual, or a large or small affair.

The font and design of your wedding invitations is very important, as is the text inside. It not only tells the guest of the event, but it says a lot about you both as the bride and groom.

The envelopes for the invitations should always be handwritten. Do not be tempted to cut corners and print of address labels, no matter how time consuming a task this may be. If your handwriting is not of the best standard, consider hiring a calligrapher to do it for you if your budget allows it.

When you send out the invitations ensure that you enclose a stamped addressed envelope and reply card. This will make it easy for your guests to reply and so cut down on waiting and planning time for you.

Wording the invitation is very important. You need to tell the guest whether they can bring a guest of their own, or if there are children involved, whether they are welcome to attend. Do this by addressing the invitation to the person involved, and then their children beginning from the oldest to the youngest. Also, if you write, Mr. 'X' and guest, then there can be no misunderstandings.

Send your invitations out at least six weeks before your wedding day. If the guest is from further away, then send their invitation out eight weeks before, to allow them to organize their transport and accommodation if required.

When ordering your invitations, it is a good idea to order thank you cards so that you can thank people for their gifts, as well as some items of other wedding stationary available. Your budget will now dictate what other matching items you may order.
