Choosing Your Wedding MusicThe wedding music you choose should say something about you and your prospective husband or wife. Two Locations Bear in mind that you need to choose music for two occasions; the ceremony itself, and the reception afterwards. You also need to decide quite early in the wedding planning stage whether you are going to have live music played by professional musicians or if you are going to opt for taped or CDs. Type of Music Once you have some idea of the type of wedding music you want, you need to find someone to play it for you. It doesn't matter if you are booking professional musicians or a D.J., you need to book them early. Around a year before the wedding is best, but do not leave it longer than 6 months before the big day. Bear in mind that wedding musicians and DJ's will be booked up a long time in advance. Space for Musicians When considering wedding music for the actual ceremony, ensure that you check on any limitations imposed by the venue. If you want live music playing gently in the background then make sure that there is room for the musicians. Remember though, that the music for the ceremony is more background music, so it may be worthwhile spending the bulk of your budget on the music for the reception. Auditioning for Musicians Before you book any musicians or a DJ for your reception, do not feel awkward about asking them to audition. Make sure that they know exactly the type of music you wish them to play, and ensure that, if you are having live music, the musicians can play any special requests you have. You may want some traditional music for certain dances, for example, the father and bride dance. Once you have chosen your musicians or DJ, make sure that you have a written contract, and check their policy regarding cancellation. Remember that this is your day, and you want it to be as perfect as possible. Preparations If either the wedding ceremony or the reception are to be held outside, then you need to make sure that there is an electrical supply and that it is reliable, maybe with a back up generator, and easily assessable. Also make sure that, should anything go wrong, you have a back up plan. Remember that there will be a wide age range of people at your reception, so it's a good idea to have a range of wedding music to account for all tastes. With these simple checks, you will be sure to have the wedding that you want.
