Pre-Wedding PartiesPre-Wedding Parties to set the tone Before the ultimate occasion, there are a number of 'pre' occasions for the prospective bride and groom to get through. All these can be great fun and serve as an exciting run up to the big day itself. First of all there is the engagement party This is a way of announcing the up and coming wedding and having those most dear to you around to celebrate with you. It is usual for the parents of the bride to hold the engagement party for the couple, and it usually happens around a month or so after the initial announcement. However there are no hard and fast rules on this. The party may be held at a restaurant, at home or at some other venue. The venue will often depend on the number of guests that are invited to attend. The engagement party gives the families involved a chance to get to know each other. Traditionally, gifts are not usually given at an engagement party, but if you need to book your food ahead of time, make sure that you include a RSVP in with the invitation. Next come the Bachelor and Bachelorette Party There was a time when all bachelor parties consisted of a wild night of drinking and other things. But these times seem to be passing, and today, there is more likely to be a more coordinated and organized event. Often the guys will all get together to go to an event, for example a special sporting event, or maybe they will organize a weekend away together, for example a fishing weekend. The bachelorette party is relatively new, as it used to be the wedding shower. But now the girls have a night or weekend away too! These can range from a night out, to a day spent relaxing somewhere. The Wedding Shower Wedding showers are designed to combine a social event with a chance for people to bring gifts that the couple will need in the married life, as well as items for the brides trousseau. It is becoming normal for the wedding shower to be themed, such as, a cooking theme. The wedding shower is usually held a few weeks before the big day, and only includes guests that have been invited to the actual wedding. Finally the rehearsal dinner The rehearsal dinner is held after the wedding rehearsal. It is only for members of the wedding party, and usually ends quite early, enabling everyone to get a good nights rest! It can be formal or informal.
